We invite you to join us in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for our

28th International Conference on
Health & Science Communications

June 18-21, 2003

HeSCA, as many of you know, is a diverse group of professionals in the rapidly changing field of health and science communications – educators, producers, writers, teachers, artists, photographers, media specialists, public relations managers, and many more. Our group, however, thrives on the knowledge sharing and collaboration that takes place at our annual conferences. We invite you to experience a truly unique conference – one where you will make valuable new acquaintances and where you will learn about new technology and techniques happening in the areas of health, medical, and scientific communication. Most of all, you’ll gain from this conference a sense of renewed enthusiasm to help you deal with the challenges of our ever-changing world.

The conference theme for 2003 is “Shaping the Future of Science and Medical Communications.” We are happy to have the Association for Biomedical Communications Directors (ABCD) joining the meeting this year. We lead off the program on Wednesday, June 18 with an extraordinary array of pre-conference workshops to help you hone your skills in several different areas, including Internet 2, Digital Video Editing, Multimedia and 3D Animation Techniques, Accessibility, and more.

The sessions that follow on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will focus on 6 key areas:

  • The Internet, Web development, Web legal issues, Web accessibility
  • Business, Management, and Marketing – "Changes for a New Economy"
  • Telemedicine – Advanced topics and techniques
  • Medical video, Digital video, HDTV, Video-on-demand
  • Saturday morning "free for all" – topics of general interest, guaranteed to be exciting, unique, and most important – worthwhile!
  • e-Learning, e-Education

We’ve got an exceptional list of keynote presenters lined up to make each of the key areas memorable. And you’ll have plenty of opportunity to connect with others at the meeting, on both a formal and informal level. Breakfast events, lunch happenings, and evening activities all add to the HeSCA conference experience.

But our conference is not all about work.“HeSCAns” have been known to have fun, too! We have several pre-conference and evening activities planned that will ensure that you have a great time while you’re here. Be sure to check out the Special Events section. We’ll do our best to make sure that your trip is a memorable one! We want you to make the HeSCA conference an annual ritual.

We also encourage you to make the most of your trip to Bethlehem by bringing your family along. Located in the beautiful Lehigh Valley, Bethlehem offers an ideal place for you and your family to explore and experience many interesting and exciting locations.

Come a few days early, or stay a few days longer. For your family, there will be activities (Spouse/Family Adventures) available while you’re at the meetings. A host of informal adventures for all ages and interests are available. They can choose from antique trips, amusement parks, a truck assembly plant, museums, outlet shopping, white water rafting, and lots more. There’s plenty for your family, spouse, or guest to do while you’re attending a very exciting conference.

To help you make the most of your visit to the Lehigh Valley, we have provided a few local web sites. Be sure to check them out. We think you’ll be amazed to learn about all the exciting adventures that are available to you and your family in the Lehigh Valley and the surrounding region.

We look forward to meeting you and helping you to enjoy your time in Bethlehem. See you in June!
