Kathy McFall Receives Distinguished Service Award
ST. LOUIS, MO – Kathy McFall is awarded HeSCA’s Distinguished Service award for her outstanding level of service and positive energy to the association for many years on the HeSCA Board, her work as President over the past year, and her role in the transition to the Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine.
As a member of the HeSCA Board, Kathy has provided an essential link to our international constituents and a wealth of experience gained from her roles with the Institute of Medical Illustrators.
Kathy was the primary person responsible for initiating the transition to the Journal of Visual Communication in Medicine. She worked with Informa Healthcare and the boards of IMI and HeSCA throughout the lengthy process to bring us the wonderful journal we now enjoy.
Her role as Head of Service for the Medical Illustration Services provides significant prestige to the association and her managerial experience in this position has made her an effective President.<->
IMI / HeSCA Exchange Program – DEADLINE EXTENDED
The deadline for this terrific opportunity has been extended to June 30, 2009.
One Exchange Program Award (IMIHEP) will be made available to a member of HeSCA to allow the successful applicant to attend the IMI Annual Conference on September 17-19, at the Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld, near Glasgow, Scotland, UK. This is the second year of this exciting award, created in partnership with in the Institute of Medical Illustrators (UK).

Media Festival and Service Awards

The 2009 Elmer Friman BEST OF SHOW went to Cardiff University’s “Amniodex” website, produced by Professor Glyn Elwyn and Marie-Anne Durand.
The Holly Harrington-Lux Creative Design Award went to Maria Louisa Contursi for the website “No Smoking Room”.
Kara Connors and Arlyn Bonfield, were the co-producers on this project which was produced for Dartmouth Medical School.

Saturday Sessions
The annual auction was held last night with great success! Thank you to all who participated and donated items. The Saturday sessions are currently underway today, with presentations on Managing Communications and the business luncheon.
Day Two
Last evening, a large group traveled downtown for a tour of the arch and dinner/music/fun! Today’s sessions were focused on Social Media, Distance Education and Financial Affairs. All presentations were excellent and many will have materials posted on the HeSCA website in the near future.
HeSCA 2009 Is Underway!
The 50th Annual meeting of the Health and Science Communications Association began last night with a sweltering opening reception on the deck of the St. Louis Marriott West. The HeSCA Board met yesterday as well, and this morning we have had sessions on Website Usability and the History of HeSCA. The facilities are awesome, the hospitality wonderful and the network is strong! For those of you who are unable to attend,we miss you!
